Skunk Odors

It's fall now and this time of year is notorious for skunks.  Besides my own experience with my cat getting sprayed by a skunk, I have received a few phone calls in October about pets coming face to tail with a skunk.

About two weeks ago I received a call from one of our clients who does all his work in agriculture.  He wanted to know if EM•1® would get rid of skunk odor.  The night before his dogs started barking around 1:30am.  A skunk had gotten in his fenced in yard.  Sure enough the skunk sprayed the dog right in the face...right outside his bedroom window.  I told him to get some of the EM•1®, dilute it out 1:10, and give the dogs a good bath.  For his yard, he should get a hose end sprayer and spray the whole thing down until the odor was gone.  He reported back to me that about 85% of the odor was gone on the first shot and it just took a couple more washes on the dog to get rid of it completely.

About 10 years ago, when I lived back East, a similar thing happened to me.  My cats were outside around 2 in the morning.  I heard a cat fight start and then the smell.  I opened the slider to let the cat in...he was soaking wet...the skunk came in and a possum followed (I didn't know they traveled together!).  My wife and I chased the possum and skunk out of the house.  Luckily the skunk did not spray in the house, but it did run under our couch and chair, getting them pretty stinky!  My eyes teared up pretty bad.

I grabbed my cat in one hand and a gallon of some Activated EM•1® I had.  I put him in the tub and poured the AEM1 all over him.  The odor was gone instantly.  And, the cat didn't seem to mind one he noticed the odor was gone....  After that, we went through the rest of the house spraying everything where the cat or the skunk had rubbed against.  It was like magic.
